Focus Transmission Technology: Concepts, Costs, Markets

7th International CTI Symposium “Innovative Automotive Transmissions”
from 1st to 5th December 2008 at the Maritim Hotel Berlin, Germany

Frankfurt/Berlin, August 2008. Modern automotive transmissions can contribute to reducing the fuel consumption and to making mobility safe and efficient (motornews.at, 4th August 2008). “More significant progress, which can be measured and noticed by the customer, was achieved in the field of automotive transmissions in the past ten years than in the 50 years before,” said Prof. Dr. Ferit Küçükay of the Institute of Automotive Engineering, Technische Universität Braunschweig. Küçükay is chairman of the 7th International CTI Symposium “Innovative Automotive Transmissions”, which takes place from 1st to 5th December at the Maritim Hotel Berlin. The international transmission industry will meet there and experts from Europe, Asia and the USA will discuss how new vehicle and drive concepts, increasing energy costs and the purchasing power in different markets influence the transmission development. CTI expects more than 1000 participants. ... »

Transmission Industry:
Cooperations against Cost Pressure and Climate Change

Review of the 6th International CTI Symposium Innovative Automotive Transmissions

Berlin/Sulzbach, December 2007. Cost pressure will increase in the coming years: more than 1,000 participants came to the 6th International CTI Symposium “Innovative Automotive Transmissions” in Berlin in the beginning of December to be informed that globalisation and the stricter emission regulations lead to increasingly stringent conditions of the international car development. The industry will only be able to comply with it by cooperations and optimised transmission technology. The future of different transmission concepts on the various geographic markets was also discussed. It became apparent that the dual-clutch transmission will become more import in both Europe and the USA, the continuously variable transmission on the Indian market. The experts, however, did not come to an agreement on the issue of fuel consumption reduction.

CO2 limits – how do automotive transmissions contribute?

International CTI Symposium Innovative Automotive Transmissions,
3rd to 7th December 2007, Maritim Hotel Berlin

The development of transmissions proceeds: the automotive supplier ZF, who presented the new generation of 8-speed transmissions at the International Motor Show (Internationale Automobilausstellung, IAA), thinks that complying with future carbon-dioxide limits is important: “When developing the 8-speed transmission, we did not focus on the number of gears, but on increased fuel economy,” emphasized Dr. Gerhard Wagner, member of the management, on the occasion of the International CTI Symposium “Innovative Automotive Transmissions” (3rd to 7th December, Maritim Hotel Berlin). Dr. Michael Paul, member of the board at ZF Friedrichshafen, will explain at the symposium how suppliers can contribute to reducing CO2 emissions of vehicles with their developments. As opposed to the ZF 6-speed transmission, which entered mass production in 2006, the 8-speed transmission allows a fuel-consumption reduction by six percent. “The 8-speed transmission is a totally new transmission concept,” says Wagner. Since there are only two open shift elements for each gear, drag losses are reduced significantly. “The efficiency of the transmission as well as the overall ratio is therefore increased. Additionally, modern torsional damping systems in torque converters influence fuel consumption and CO2 emission positively.”

The optimal automotive transmission – vision or soon reality?

International CTI Symposium Innovative Automotive Transmissions, 3rd to 7th December 2007 in Berlin

Efficient, ecological and comfortable: the optimal transmission, which meets increasing customer demands as well as the demands of car manufacturers and legislators, is currently the most important aim of transmission manufacturers. More than 90 specialists from automotive and supplier industries will discuss scientific knowledge in the field of transmission technology and future-proof market strategies at the 6th International CTI Symposium Innovative Automotive Transmissions (3rd to 7th December 2007, Maritim Hotel Berlin). The largest independent meeting for the transmission industry, with more than 900 participants in the previous year, is organised by the Car Training Institute (CTI), a division of IIR Deutschland.
